February 2001 "Breaking All Barriers" Convention
Dr. E. William and Audrey Jackson, co-founder and president of Deseret International Foundation

During a three year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Philippines, Dr. E. William and Audrey Jackson were shocked by the number of children suffering from terrible disfiguring disabilities such as cleft palates, crossed eyes and clubbed feet. With the help of church leaders in the area, The Mabuhay Deseret Foundation was started.

Upon returning to the United States, Dr. Jackson met with other doctors who had similar experiences to see if a foundation to help children around the world like those in the Philippines could be created. The foundation, now known as the Deseret International Foundation, strives to assist physicians in partnering countries to establish ongoing programs for the surgical repair of specific health problems, particularly among children. They provide services such as cardiac surgery, club foot correction, cleft lip repair and dental procedures to children in more than 20 countries.
